Meet Nancy Oppenheimer ~
"... atop my easel is a quote and note to remind me of where it is I need to be. The quote is - 'We can do no great things, only small things with great love.' The note reads - 'Think Intimacy.'"
NANCY OPPENHEIMER graduated from The University of Hartford Art School, CT, cum laude, with a double major in Art and English Literature. Following her formal education she taught art for three years in the East Lyme, CT Public School System. During that time, she attended Paier Art School, New Haven, CT, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI, and Connecticut College, New London, CT concentrating on illustration and sculpture. For many years, she worked in commerical illustration including ten years as a newspaper editorial illustrator. She worked in-house and frelanced for book publishers, magazines, newspapers, ad agencies, and greeting card companies moving to art director for a greeting card company. Explains Ms. Oppenheimer, "Here I learned to find the truth of a concept then marry it to a mood."
Ms. Oppenheimer works as a fine art artist. "Have you ever stood outside on a clear crisp night, raised your eyes and looked deep into the sky, beheld the layers and layers of stars, then felt awe and a sense of wonder and a sense of belonging -- of being at one with the universe? This is my sensation when I paint. I am at one with it. I want you to feel this way too, when you allow my work to reveal itself to you, like layers of stars in the night sky."
As a gallery artist, she chooses the one mood of intimacy, and the truth of beauty and grace. She tries to paint with the poet’s hand. "I prefer to work in pastels, which are to diamonds what chalk is to glass. A box of pastels is surely more glorious than a box of jewels. Pastel paintings from the 16th century have been found in pristine condition. If framed properly, they will last for many centuries. I work on archival handmade French pastel paper, or archival Museum grade Wallis pastel paper. My paintings are then framed beneath Tru-View Museum glass, which prevents all reflection and protects the painting from UVA rays."
Ms. Oppenheimer is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who Women in America, and Who's Who in the World. Her work resides in university, museum, corporate and private collections. She is proudly represented by WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, North Carolina. |
