Meet Mary Brummett
MARY ANDRÉ BRUMMETT, a resident of Saluda, NC, is a graduate of Syracuse University, where she majored in Interior Design. While living in Punta Gorda on the SW coast of Florida, she was a student of several professional artists.
Mary has participated in workshops conducted by L. Diane Johnson, Bob Osborne (Ringling School of Art), Sarah Sneeden, Gay Faulkenberry, William Jameson and Jim Carson. The artist works in oils and acrylics, and has studied with Gale Bennett in FL and at ArtStudy Giverny in France in 1997 and 1998. "It was the extraordinary experience of painting Monet’s garden that forever changed the way I perceive light, color and form. In my painting I try to create a joyful, evocative mood I can share with the viewer. My paintings are often not a literal rendering of a scene, but instead I try to capture my emotional, immediate reactions to what is before me." Subsequently, Mary took a number of workshops from Mr. Bennett in plein-air and figure painting.Mary has exhibited her paintings at numerous juried shows throughout the U.S. Her work is included in private collections in the United States and internationally. In February 1999, Mary received the People’s Choice Award in Punta Gorda (FL) for one of her painting in the exhibit, "Painting the French Countryside."
