Meet Jane Todd Butcher BFA, SCWS, GWS ~    

"My art is part memory, part impression from a lifetime of enjoying the outdoors. I’m especially interested in conveying the many moods of nature and the importance of conserving our forests and natural resources."   Most of Jane Todd Butcher’s current paintings utilize a combination of water-based mediums including acrylic paint and acrylic inks, and often include rice papers and other papers which she incorporates to create textures and interesting surfaces. Sometimes the surface itself suggests a composition and leads her as she develops the painting.

Jane is originally from the Midwest, but has adopted the Carolinas as her home for most of her life and primarily exhibits in the Southeast. The richness and variety of the Carolina landscapes from the mountains to the coast continues to provide the source for her art. She received a B.A. in Art from Illinois State University, and has earned signature membership in the South Carolina Watermedia Society/SCWS and the Georgia Watercolor Society/GWS. She is on the Board of the South Carolina Watermedia Society, is a past President of Upstate Visual Arts, is past Board member of the Metropolitan Arts Council, and is a member of the National Watercolor Society.  She teaches workshops in water media and mixed media painting.  Jane’s paintings have been included in invitational, juried exhibitions at the Gibbs Museum in Charleston, SC, the SC State Museum, the Greenville County Museum of Art and numerous other venues, as well as, corporate and private collections.  "The Greenville County Museum of Art," says Jane, "is one of the most difficult to get into.  They rarely exhibit local or regional artists.  I consider it an honor to have been chosen!"
