Meet Michael Brown

My inspiration for these chair designs came from an original Windsor made in 1740, and still in use to this day. It was made without the use of a lathe... all the parts were split from the tree and worked with hand tools... drawknife, shave, and brace and bit. To this end the legs are tapering octagons.

The spindles for the arm and back are shaped with the drawknife while the wood is wet, then dried and finished with a spokeshave and plane, this gives the approximate round tapered spindle, with a multitude of little flat facets, that make it so tactile.

The flexibility found in my chairs and all true Windsor's, is what makes them so comfortable, the classic joinery and careful selection of wood, is what makes them so long lived.

All my work comes with a lifetime guarantee... if any part should fail in my lifetime I will fix it.

Living a quiet country life working with my hands, I am truly blessed. I believe what you are will show in what you make.
