Meet Veryle Lynn Cox

The art experience of VERYLE LYNN COX encompasses pottery, classical sculpture, figure drawing, oil and water color painting, and iconography.  Highlights of her background include four years at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, Belgium; two years at the sculpture academy of Egyptian sculptor Mustafa Naguib in Chicago; writing icons at the school of Vladislav Andrejev; and exploring additional art forms at the Penland School.  These art experiences greatly add to the art studies underlying a BA from Idaho State University.

“As these various art forms combined in my abilities,” explains Veryle Lynn, “my direction also became more spiritual - much of my work is prayerful and biblical.  For example one of the texture devices I made has the various names of God – Allah, YHWH, Lord, and so forth.  But when applied to the pottery, none of the individual names can be seen in the texture. Certain of my pottery pieces also feature an icon with gold leaf, combining the simplicity of clay with the spiritual elegance of the icon.”

As a member of a liturgical church, Veryle Lynn creates pottery chalices, patens, ewers, and other vessels in stoneware and porcelain.  She works both on the potter’s wheel and does hand building.  Some of her porcelain work is created by impressing old lace to form the design.  The piece is then cut and shaped into a beautiful form. 

Veryle Lynn’s focus has been on pottery for the past fifteen years and she continues to create in the other mediums in which she has been trained.  Her work is on exhibit and available for personal collection or gift giving through WICKWIRE fine art/folk art Hendersonville, North Carolina.
