Meet Michael Allender
Deep in the woods of Oregon, MICHAEL ALLENDER handcrafts the finest backscratchers made since the human hand grew fingers. Of course nothing replaces a pair of friendly, loving hands that know just where to go. But when those are not available and a persistent itch begins gnawing away at your spine or lower shoulder blade, the most functional, elegant and solid backscratcher ever fashioned is priceless.
Michael selects the finest hardwoods available, choosing from a variety of domestic species, then personally cuts each scratcher on a scroll saw. He then routes the edges and hand sands each one to a smooth finish. Two coats of hard, durable lacquer protect and bring out the beauty of each piece. The deep graceful curve of the long neck allows the scratcher to fit over the shoulder and far down the back, even for persons with limited mobility. The beak of the goose or duck has just the right lip to dig in and eliminate stubborn itches, and the handle is large enough to give a sense of solidity and strength to the elegant shape. No two pieces are alike, varying in color, shape and length.
This handcrafted tool of self-indulgence makes a wonderful gift for anyone who has ever had an unreachable itch—and who hasn’t?
Satisfaction is certain, and fully guaranteed.
Michael Allender is proudly represented by WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
