Meet Amy Wald
AMY WALD began creating rustic furniture in 1998 after searching for furnishings for her new log home in North Carolina. She was able to find many wonderful pieces, but none seemed to “fit” her new log home. “They were either beyond what I could afford,” says Amy, “or what I considered to be ‘elegant rustic.’ I searched to find ‘mountain rustic’ furniture and accessories at a more affordable price. I was unable to find anything that met my criteria. I discovered that the only way I could have the furniture I desired was to make it myself.”
Amy’s husband hiked their property to select and gather the twigs for her creations. Amy experimented until she found the proper joinery and finishing techniques that would make her pieces last a lifetime (or longer). She loves what she does and approaches each project with enthusiasm and pride. She enjoys sharing her work with those who desire to live with original, unique and handmade works of art.
Amy creates furniture and accessories in the traditional Adirondack, rustic style, utilizing all natural materials such as birch bark, split twigs, pinecones, acorns, burls and whatever else Mother Nature provides. Most materials are collected locally. Amy creates one piece at a time, and every piece is one of a kind art. She creates her furniture using both antique and modern pieces. She also creates bark and twig frames for existing artwork. She transforms dated pieces of furniture into rustic pieces of art! She applies bark and twig embellishment to both kitchen and bathroom cabinets to continue a rustic theme throughout a home.
Amy Wald has shown in Pennsylvania and the Adirondack Mountains of New York and is proudly represented by WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
