Meet Steve McDonald

STEVE McDONALD had a career as an Episcopal minister, working with poverty issues in Greenville, S.C.  He loved his job and after twenty-two years in that line of work, he could not imagine doing anything else.  Fate intervened when Steve was diagnosed with Demenia in 2006.

Except for riding with family and friends, Steve found himself staying at home with his wife’s herd of goats and daytime T.V.  Then, fast forward eighteen months when Steve’s life changed again.  A dear friend literally signed him up for woodworking class.

Steve learned to make simple wooden pens.  Constant practice and mentoring from fellow craftsmen lead him to experiment with various pen styles and sizes.  Executive pens are his current passion, made with various hardwoods (some layered) and acrylics.  He has even experimented with preserved corncobs as the basis for some of his works.

Steve and his wife have lived in Simpsonville, South Carolina for the past thirty-seven years.  Grandchildren are nearby and a constant in his life.  He enjoys spending time at his wood lathe on a daily basis.

Steve McDonald is proudly represented by WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
