WICKWIRE fine art/folk art Owner Recognized as a Main Street Champion                                                               at Annual NC Main Street Program Conference

 SHIRLEY PALMER-HILL, Hendersonville Owner of WICKWIRE fine art/folk art located in Historic Downtown Hendersonville was recently recognized as a Main Street Champion at the 2007 North Carolina Main Street Annual Conference and Awards Dinner in Morganton, NC. Palmer-Hill was recognized along with 31 other champions representing the 57 communities that make up the North Carolina Main Street Program.

Main Street communities have the opportunity to select an individual who has made a significant contribution to the success of their downtown program. Designation as a Main Street Champion recognizes the efforts of individuals who have been instrumental in downtown revitalization and is a tribute to show appreciation for all of their hard work and dedication.

Shirley Palmer-Hill has been an advocate for Downtown Hendersonville since opening her fine art/folk art gallery nine years ago. Since that time she has expanded to two separate locations on Main Street with the objective of both to become “community galleries” by featuring the talents of local artists and encouraging local residents to learn more about art.


Hendersonville Resident Earns Certified Designation Through International Association of Administrative Professionals

 LINDA CAMPANELLA, Hendersonville recently received the prestigious professional rating Certified Administrative Professional. The CAP examination is administered by the International Association of Administrative Professionals Institute for Certification and was given at Blue Ridge Community College, Flat Rock. IAAP’s mission is to enrich the lives of those within their reach through education, training, and cultural activities. Worldwide nearly 800 individuals have achieved the CAP rating since first instituted in May 2001. CAP certification is the accepted standard of proficiency requiring certain educational achievement, work experience, and the passing a 4-part exam. CAP and CPS certification are the recognized capstones of the secretarial and administrative support professional.

Campanella, a graduate of Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC completed her BSBA after pursing educational goals “. . .over a lifetime,” says Campanella. Following the raising of her family, full time career employment in placement counseling and sales for the temporary personnel industry as well as administrative secretarial in the education and insurance sectors, Campanella and her husband moved to North Carolina from Chicago in 1999. Campanella has been with WICKWIRE fine art/folk art on historic downtown Main Street since 2001.


Hendersonville Resident Inducted into Wisconsin Old Time Ballplayers’ Hall of Fame 2006Dave Hill

DAVE HILL, Hendersonville, was recently inducted into the Wisconsin Old Time Ballplayers’ Hall of Fame in Milwaukee. Hill, a Milwaukee native and former high school star was a member of Northwestern University’s 1957 Big Ten Baseball Championship Team and played professionally with the Kansas City Athletics.
After his baseball career, he was a telecommunications executive for many years before moving to Hendersonville in 1996.

Hill and his wife, Shirley Palmer-Hill are the owners of WICKWIRE fine art/folk art on historic downtown Main Street.

Hill received his BA Degree from Northwestern University in Renaissance Literature and his Master’s in Industrial Psychology from Chicago’s Loyola University.


Hecht Named 2006 Finalist in the North Carolina Senior Games and Silver Arts in Henderson County Competition Receives the First Bette Hoffmann, Newcomer Award

Diana HechtDIANA HECHT, Sculpted Wire Art Jewelry Artist, Hendersonville named 2006 finalist in the Four Seasons Senior Games and Silver Arts in Henderson County competition was recently awarded the first Bette Hoffmann, Newcomer Award. In honor of Bette Hoffmann an ambassador for the Four Seasons Senior Games and Silver Arts in Henderson County, the Four Seasons Senior Games established an award for newcomers to the games. Hecht started making beaded jewelry in 1993 by helping out a friend. In 1997, she discovered “orphan glass” to which she would apply round sterling silver and gold-filled wire and design shapes onto the glass. Today she creates pendants using dichroic glass, gemstones, minerals, fossils, pottery, pearls and shells. Hecht uses 14kt gold fill and sterling silver, utilizing various sizes of square wire in creating her jewelry.

Hecht moved to Hendersonville in August 2001 from St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. “After eleven years on an island,” says Hecht, “I was ready to return to the United States. This part of the country captured my heart and I thoroughly enjoy pursuing my creative endeavors.”

Currently Hecht‘s original jewelry can be viewed at WICKWIRE fine art/folk art on Main Street in historic downtown Hendersonville. From her innate ability to craft stunning pendants to unique earrings, she is able to offer a range of art jewelry for any occasion.
